Volunteering is a powerful tool that can bring about positive change in a community. In my experience over the last month, I have witnessed firsthand the immense power that a community possesses. There is so much untapped potential in the form of indigenous knowledge, inspiring stories, and positive deviances that can be harnessed for the greater good.
I have come to appreciate the importance of the CLD model used by CorpsAfrica, which recognizes and utilizes the strengths of a community. While my integration into the community has been a mixed bag of experiences, I have been fortunate enough to have had heartwarming moments, personal doubts, unexpected twists, and moments of joy. One of the challenges I faced was navigating my way through the community, especially when language became a barrier. However, my community members have been my source of motivation and resilience, which has helped me overcome these challenges.
As the farming season is in full swing, I have been able to lend a helping hand to some community members while spreading positivity. Volunteering has transformed me in so many ways, allowing me to celebrate small wins and little impacts. I am proud of the obstacles I have overcome, and I am still exploring the power of community engagement and collaboration.
In conclusion, volunteering is not just about the individual, but about coming together as a community to create positive change. It is an opportunity to learn and grow, and I am excited to continue on my journey, making a difference in the lives of others.
