As a CorpsAfrica Exchange Volunteer from Rwanda in Endao village, Baringo County, Kenya, I had the opportunity to work alongside the Namkaa Women Group, a vibrant group of over 14 women eager to learn new skills. My task was to facilitate a liquid soap-making workshop, and the experience was both rewarding and inspiring.

Using simple materials like: soap chemicals, water, and domestic tools like buckets and bottles we set to work. I facilitated the women through each step of the process, ensuring that everyone was actively involved in mixing the ingredients and preparing the soap. The excitement in the air was palpable as the women saw their hard work come together.

By the end of the session, we had successfully produced 10 liters of high-quality liquid soap. This practical skill not only provides a cost-effective solution for their homes but also opens opportunities for small-scale businesses. The women were eager to continue making soap for personal use and potential sale in their community.

It was a truly fulfilling experience to see the women’s confidence grow, knowing that this new skill could positively impact their lives and create sustainable income. I’m proud to have been part of this empowering moment for the Namkaa Women Group.

CorpsAfrica addresses two of Africa’s most difficult challenges: engaging youth and helping rural communities overcome extreme poverty. We recruit and train motivated volunteers to live and work in rural, under-resourced areas in their own countries. They collaborate with the community to design and implement small-scale projects that address their top priorities and, by doing so, gain the skills and experience that lay the foundation for personal and professional success.

CorpsAfrica trusts youth and communities to help each other.
