Project Overview

Majete 1 Epicenter is a community surrounded by mountains. The services in the Centre include buying and selling maize crops at the food bank, trading activities at the epicenter, health services at the clinic, entertainment, and other developmental activities that take place at the center. To access these, one must cross 2-3 rivers. Although the services at the epicenter are important to the community members, more than 60% of the population have been denied full access due to the damaged bridge at Kanjoka River, which connects at least 30 villages to the epicenter. This has been a trend during the rainy season for the past 5 years. Thus, some community members, especially women and girls, fail to go to the clinic. Last year, a woman delivered a child at the river crossing after failed attempts to cross the bridge. Apart from that, economic activities, farming, and school attendance have been affected. The main objective of the project was to construct a sustainable timber bridge so that people have easy access to a health facility at the epicenter. Apart from that, economic sustainability, education and farming activities are expected to improve which will likely lead to the development of small businesses and boost already existent businesses.

Project Highlights

  • The number of women, children, and the elderly accessing health services at the health center has increased since the implementation of this project.
