The renovation project for the nursery school in Kokwaado aimed to address critical issues affecting the safety, learning environment, and accessibility for young children. For years, the school operated in a dilapidated state with missing doors and windows, no electricity, insufficient seating, and a lack of security—allowing animals like goats and even snakes to disrupt learning sessions. Additionally, the absence of a fence allowed children to leave the school premises unsupervised, creating significant security concerns for both children and teachers.
With support from CorpsAfrica and the active participation of the local community, a comprehensive renovation plan was undertaken to improve conditions. This included installing doors, windows, and burglar-proof bars, painting the entire school, building a fence wall with a gate, providing additional seating, and connecting electricity to support both learning activities and digital literacy initiatives introduced by the Ghana Education Service (GES). A temporary library was also created to house donated books, while regular maintenance, such as weeding around the premises, ensured a safer environment. This initiative not only enhanced safety and learning conditions but also led to increased enrollment, as more parents felt comfortable sending their children to a secure and conducive learning environment.
