Once a delightful child unknowing of the world, now a daring young woman who thrives in challenges: that is who Blen Yemane is. Born and raised in a hard-working family that values genuineness and determination, she looked up to her intellectual father, fearless and empathetic mother, and strong and resilient two older sisters to take as role models to build herself up. She is a Business Management graduate and believes entrepreneurship is the creative solution for the youth struggling to be financially independent. Starting her elementary school education with a scholarship from benevolent foreign owners and directorate since at the time her family couldn’t afford to send her to school in addition to her older sisters, Blen firmly asserts that education is, unfortunately, a privilege not many get to access and that those of us who get to develop in it should cherish, respect and share it with others lacking this opportunity. Blen has worked in the hospitality industry as a Front Office Manager at Kuriftu Resorts and she says this experience has helped her advance her communication skills and build connections with people on a deeper level. Growing up in Dire Dawa City known for being the most hospitable, diverse, and harmonious in Ethiopia, she says working in the hospitality industry sheds light on how important it is to create a hospitable environment for people to be accepted and respected for who they are. Blen takes every chance to share what she knows and volunteers in activities that help build an altruistic spirit in communities. Before joining CorpsAfrica, she also volunteered at Tesfa Community Development Association which focuses on empowering and supporting single mothers for financial independence and helping orphaned kids find appropriate families to be adopted. Blen joined CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia to work with underserved and underrepresented communities in the journey of empowering, mobilizing, and leveraging the resources that they have and the great asset that they are themselves. Blen is a creative writer who uses art and literature to spread positivity and open-mindedness. She is an advocate for women’s and children’s rights, inclusivity against stereotypes, and education for all. Blen believes that being humane helps us to be our human selves. For anyone who wants to see a better world for everyone, Blen says “Be the change you wish to see.”
