Joana Duodu Owusu served in the first cohort of CorpsAfrica/Ghana and is currently serving as an Exchange Volunteer in the first cohort of CorpsAfrica/South Africa. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management from the University of Energy and Natural Resources. She is a result-oriented and self-motivated professional with solid training in Community-led Development, Project Management, and Plastic Recycling. With her previous volunteering service with Recycle Up Ghana, she developed great skills in waste management, plastic waste, and recycling. During her CorpsAfrica service in the Central Region of Ghana, she trained women and girls in soap making, facilitated career guidance sessions with the Junior High School pupils in the community, developed a value-added product which is ‘Gari Mix’ from the community’s main farm produce which is cassava with a group of community members. For her primary project, she worked with the community to renovate an old structure to serve as a teacher’s bungalow and a nursery school. She is an apostle of change, creative, and innovative, has positive human relations, and is experienced in working with people of diverse backgrounds. She possesses excellent leadership skills demonstrated through mobilizing, coaching, and managing youth organizations. Terrific at starting and sustaining programs, corporates well in teams and easily adapts to new roles, Joana takes her inspiration from kids.
