Phuthehi Masilo is a Human-Centered Design (HCD) specialist who serves as a
Training Officer for CorpsAfrica/South Africa. His background is in Accounting and
Taxation and holds a Master’s degree in International Tax Law from the University of
Cape Town (UCT). He brings over 10 years of work experience across several
industries. He worked as a Human-Centered Designer for a behavioral design
company in global public health where he helped to create solutions that improve the
well-being of people, with a particular focus on Sub-Saharan Africa. Before that, he
worked as a Design Thinking Program Lead and Coach at Hasso Plattner D-School
Afrika at the University of Cape Town where he conceptualized, designed, developed, and implemented Design Thinking programs. He also led teams of coaches in the
delivery of design projects. Throughout his design career, Phuthehi worked on a
wealth of projects with several international development agencies such as the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) the World Bank, African Union, and different
divisions within the United Nations which include UNICEF, UNEP, and UNDP. Before
his design experience, he worked as a Project Manager for a sustainable agriculture
institution where he managed food security projects and led the team in the pursuit
of transforming the lives of local Basotho farmers through conservation agriculture
training, outreach, and support. His passion lies in creating environments concerned
with social impact and creating sustainable solutions to complex challenges
affecting people and the planet. He enjoys equipping young people with Human-Centered
Design (HCD) approach and other problem-solving methodologies to lead a positive
change in their lives and communities around them.
