Hello, This is Mastewal Abiyu. She was born in Eastern Gojjam in the Amhara region, Ethiopia.
She graduated from Hawassa University’s Department of Statistics and holds a Bachelor of Natural and Computational Science in data collection from December 2020. She has a big passion for volunteering service with the community. She also has one year of work experience in volunteering with the Peace of Minster in the Yirgalem City Administration Revenue Authority Office and is certified in a national volunteer community service program given by the Minster of Peace. During that time, she learned the importance of listening and providing empathy and understanding for community members. Additionally, she participated in the Nation Nationality of Election Board in May 2020. She also facilitated agricultural practices with the international NGO, One Acar Fund. She served in CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia’s first cohort in 2023. She says working as a Volunteer with CorpsAfrica is a great opportunity to change her life, and is related to working with community services. As a Volunteer, Mastewal served in Hawassa village in the Kefeta project community in the Hawassa district in the south of Ethiopia. During her service, she was particularly interested in working with an intern of the Kefeta Project (YCDF) Youth Cultural and Developmental Foundation for seven (7) months during that time listening, understanding, and empathy.
She worked as the promoter of SACCO which is a great achievement for Kefeta Youth SACCO. She has worked on data encoding into the DHIS system. She is certified in basic sign language by the International Ethiopian Center for Disability and Development (ECDD.) Now in 2024, she continues serving in CorpsAfrica/Ethiopia’s second cohort.
