Meet Our Alums: Sharon Jelagat

Sharon Jelagat is a passionate advocate for community development who served with CorpsAfrica from 2022 to 2023 in Machakos, Kenya. Hailing from the western part of the country, specifically Eldoret, she entered the CorpsAfrica program with a strong commitment to making a difference in her community.
Before her time with CorpsAfrica, Sharon worked with several community organizations, gaining invaluable experience in the field. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Conflict Resolution and Humanitarian Assistance, equipping her with the knowledge to tackle pressing social issues.
Since completing her service, Sharon has actively sought employment while also volunteering her skills and expertise with various organizations. She is currently in the process of establishing her community-based organization, which focuses on supporting adolescents and teenagers in her community.
Sharon’s dedication to making a difference has continued through her volunteer work. By leveraging her expertise, she has contributed to multiple organizations, empowering young people and fostering positive change in their lives.
Reflecting on her time with CorpsAfrica, Sharon notes that the experience unveiled personal traits she never knew she possessed, particularly in people management. She expresses gratitude for the self-awareness she gained and the lessons learned about her capabilities.
Professionally, CorpsAfrica has been a transformative experience for Sharon. It allowed her to learn, unlearn, and relearn essential skills, both hard and soft, that are crucial in today’s competitive job market. This journey has significantly enhanced her career prospects and increased her visibility within her field.
Looking to the future, Sharon aspires to spread the gospel of self-belief at both personal and community levels. She envisions empowering others to recognize their potential and embrace their strengths.
In addition to her serious aspirations, Sharon has a fun side; she loves to dance and enjoys sharing her passion for movement with friends and family.
