Mphatso Chembekeza, a dedicated alumnus of Cohort 3 in Malawi, is celebrated for his outstanding contribution to community development. During his service, Mphatso spearheaded an innovative project on Organic Fertiliser Production and Selling in partnership with the Mchenga Farmers Club in the village of Bango, Kasungu, Malawi. This project garnered recognition as the Most Innovative Project, underscoring Mphatso’s ingenuity and commitment to sustainable agriculture.

Post-CorpsAfrica service, Mphatso ventured into the private sector, where he served as a salesman for university enrollment and later as a program developer and marketing director for a horticultural company. His extensive experience in the private sector spanned two years before he transitioned back to the NGO sector. Joining the World University Service of Canada (WUSC) as a Resource Mobilization Advisor, Mphatso played a pivotal role in developing youth, entrepreneurship, and technology programs at mHub, a local NGO and incubator hub.

Reflecting on his journey, Mphatso credits CorpsAfrica for laying the foundation for his career in fundraising and community development. The invaluable skills and experiences gained during his service continue to shape his professional trajectory and commitment to social impact.

“In all these roles, I am utilizing my expertise in program development and resource mobilization to facilitate the implementation of impactful community-oriented projects.”

Mphatso’s impactful contributions at mHub attracted recognition from WUSC, leading to an opportunity to serve as a Fundraising Advisor with Lanka Social Ventures (LSV) in Sri Lanka. Leveraging his expertise in resource mobilization, Mphatso facilitated the successful implementation of projects focusing on youth-led green transitions in enterprises.

“CorpsAfrica planted the seed of service in me, and I intend to nurture it for the rest of my life. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself, to be a catalyst for change in my community.”

Mphatso Chembekeza’s story exemplifies the transformative impact of service and the enduring legacy of CorpsAfrica in empowering individuals to effect positive change in their communities and beyond. Concurrently, he remains actively involved in community development initiatives in Malawi, serving on the boards of Girl Power for Change and Children Youth and Women Inclusion.

“Progressing forward, I aspire to get more training in the resource mobilization and program development sector. I envision establishing a vibrant consultancy that will build the capacity of community-based organizations and social enterprises with the appropriate skills to find partners, funders, and like-minded people that help them advance their missions and vision.”
