Meet Our Alums: Irene Kihumba

Irene Kihumba served in the 1st cohort of CorpsAfrica/Kenya in Kikumi, Makueni county.

Since ending her Volunteer service, Irene has had some exceptional transitioning experiences including:

Irene has attended two key youth conferences and events. These include:

YouthConnekt Africa Summit under the theme: Youth Innovating a Borderless African Renaissance. The summit was hosted by the Government of Kenya in partnership with the YouthConnekt Africa Hub and UNDP. The summit sought to spotlight youth leadership and innovation for Africa’s integration through policy discussions, storytelling, networking, entrepreneur-focused programs, and investor meetings. CorpsAfrica/Kenya facilitated her to attend the summit. Irene has also attended the East Africa Agribusiness Challenge Fund Event – Fund for Resilience and Prosperity – an event organized by Mastercard Foundation under the theme: Empower SMEs, Enable Young People.

Irene has recently secured a role as a Partnerships Coordinator for the African Youth Initiative on Climate Change (AYICC Africa), a volunteering position in which she says she is using the experiences and skills she acquired during her CorpsAfrica service.

“I have had a bit of an adjustment period, but it has been rewarding overall. I learned a lot during my service as a Volunteer. I felt a strong sense of purpose and direction. The skills and experiences gained during my CorpsAfrica service helped a lot in my transition process. I used my leadership, adaptability, and cross-cultural understanding to navigate new challenges and opportunities in my post-service life.”– Irene Kihumba.
