Meet Our Alums: Gideon Masengesho

Meet Gideon Masengesho, a CorpsAfrica alumnus whose journey exemplifies dedication, resilience, and community impact. Serving in both Cohort 2 and extending his service in Cohort 3, Gideon’s commitment to service transcends boundaries. Newly wedded and currently residing in Rutsiro District, Western Province, Gideon holds a Bachelor’s degree in law, a testament to his academic prowess.

During his time as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer, Gideon served his community in the Rutsiro District, where he spearheaded a groundbreaking initiative to combat soil infertility through a pig farming and livestock project in 2022. This project not only yielded significant agricultural improvements but also fostered community empowerment.

Recognizing the pressing need for improved market access for local farmers, Gideon identified a gap and decided to take action upon completing his CorpsAfrica service. Remaining in the community, he established an agro-business enterprise, comprising a harvest store, two milling machines, a motorbike, and an automobile spare parts shop. Through his business endeavors, Gideon has provided employment opportunities for up to seven youths from his community, contributing to job creation and post-harvest loss reduction.

Reflecting on his journey, Gideon acknowledges the transformative impact of his CorpsAfrica experience. “CorpsAfrica challenged me in ways I never expected,” he recalls. “It pushed me to confront the realities of my community, to see beyond the surface and recognize the deep-seated issues that needed addressing.” Inspired by the potential for positive change, Gideon remains steadfast in his commitment to community development.

Looking ahead, Gideon’s aspirations extend beyond his current achievements. He envisions expanding his business to neighboring regions, inspiring youth, and serving as a catalyst for change in his community. “CorpsAfrica planted the seed of service in me,” he affirms. “I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of something bigger than myself, to be a catalyst for change in my community.”

Gideon’s journey underscores the transformative power of service and exemplifies the spirit of resilience and empowerment. As he continues to pursue his goals, his story serves as a testament to the enduring impact of CorpsAfrica and the boundless potential for positive change within communities.
