Miriam Chiumia is a development work enthusiast, passionate about Quality Education, Gender Equality, and Youth Empowerment. She holds a diploma in Gender and Development from Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR), and she has completed her Bachelor of Social Work at DMI St. John the Baptist University. Miriam has accumulated over 4 years of work experience working with local communities, the government, and local organizations. She has worked with Lydia Action as the Programme Officer for Women’s Empowerment. She actively worked to implement a Women’s Economic Empowerment project through small-scale income-generating activities; she volunteered with Chance for Change and interned for the Ministry of Gender Social Work and Community Development. Miriam is also passionate about Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and actively works and is involved in platforms that promote their implementation. She is currently a Melton Foundation 2022 Global Solvers Accelerator Fellow; she is actively working in Education policy with the UNESCO SDG4 Youth Network, and she actively and successfully participated in the 2022 8th Youth Leadership Workshop on Global Citizenship Education (GCED) organised by the Asia-Pacific Centre of Education for International Understanding (UNESCO-APCEIU) and is one of the mentorship and grant awardees. She is a Feminist Macro Economic Academy alumnus. Related to her cause, Miriam is also an Earth Charter Young Leaders Network member, having participated in Earth Charter’s 2022 Leadership, Sustainability, and Ethics course. She is also one of the small global grants’ awardees through Earth Charter from Swarovski Water schools. Miriam believes her experience with Corps Africa will widen her horizon regarding community development and project management. It will enable her to continue impacting SDG4 and SDG5 and expose her to international development practices.
