As the morning chill lingers, I’m out on the community farm, surrounded by the peaceful hills of Charuru and Nyambene. Today, like many mornings before, I’m harvesting fresh green vegetables alongside the community. There’s something deeply fulfilling about being connected to the earth, feeling the soil in my hands, and knowing that the crops we gather will nourish those around us. It’s not just the vegetables that grow here; it’s the sense of togetherness, the quiet strength of people working side by side toward a common goal.
Being a volunteer with CorpsAfrica has given me the chance to experience firsthand how agriculture can bring about real change. It’s not just about planting seeds or harvesting crops; it’s about helping build a future where communities are more self-reliant and able to provide for themselves. Every small action, like gathering these vegetables, contributes to a larger vision of food security and sustainability.
What stands out most to me, though, is the sense of unity here. Working alongside the local community, I’ve learned that it’s not just the land that needs care, it’s the people. When we come together, share knowledge, and support one another, that’s when real transformation happens.
The hills of Charuru and Nyambene, ever present around me, remind me that change doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and hard work. But with every vegetable we harvest, I see how far we’ve come and how much further we can go if we continue working together. Through CorpsAfrica, I’ve seen how small acts of service can create lasting change, and I’m excited to continue being a part of this journey. There’s so much more to learn, but I’m grateful for each step forward.
