Michael Ogutu is a graduate of South Eastern Kenya University, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science in Geology. At the moment, motivated by Community-Led Development, he is excited to be volunteering with CorpsAfrica/Kenya to help support local communities in bringing about positive changes in society. Growing up in a resource-rich environment, he witnessed the struggles and resilience of people, which inspired him to help communities realize their resources and utilize them efficiently. Michael has learned to be very analytical because of his training in geology, and that is how he has thrived in solving problems in his previous roles in leadership development and administrative support. He has a passion for networking—enjoying engaging with people and connecting with donors for resource mobilization. These connections help him facilitate effective events that enable people to come together, exchange ideas, and work toward a common cause. What Michael enjoys is developing a learning and development plan that exposes community members to personal leadership, interpersonal skills, and individual or communal awareness. He believes that society benefits whenever people develop. This sentiment has been reinforced by his experience with CorpsAfrica/Kenya; it has deepened his understanding of the importance of partnerships and community involvement. He looks forward to collaborating with communities, uncovering their perspectives, and empowering them to create solutions that respond to their needs. Michael aspires to be a change-maker who helps create cultures that enable everyone to flourish. With this in mind, he strongly believes that communities can work together with a common vision of improving themselves.
