Meet Our Alums: Fatiha Tachakourt

Meet Fatiha Tachakourt, a 32-year-old Moroccan woman blazing trails on the post-COVID-19 frontlines as a Volunteer of Group 6 with CorpsAfrica/Maroc. Fatiha applied for and received a WORLD CONNECT grant to spearhead a community project focused on equipping a drinking water well. But her impact didn’t stop there. Fatiha also dedicated herself to empowering 25 women through a 3-month program of soft skills workshops. As a result of her efforts, these women emerged empowered, ready to kickstart a female cooperative for local handicrafts. They learned invaluable skills in branding and promoting their village’s offerings.

“As a CorpsAfrica volunteer, my role is to empower the community to identify and address their challenges while also facilitating access to external resources. The asset-based community development training has been instrumental in equipping me with the tools and strategies necessary to fulfill this role effectively.”

Hailing from Agadir, Fatiha holds a Master’s Degree in Mass Media and is a Fulbright alumna. She served as a CorpsAfrica Volunteer in Village Al Makhzen, Ijoukak Commune, an Amazighian community in the High Atlas Mountains. Leveraging her experience, Fatiha excelled as a project assistant at the Global Diversity Foundation, later becoming a program coordinator. She worked tirelessly to empower women, collaborating with local cooperatives and organizing markets.

A champion of women’s empowerment, Fatiha collaborated with local female cooperatives, organizing markets and national events to boost their businesses. She prioritizes partnerships with eco-friendly local businesses, advocating for the use of natural resources and celebrating Moroccan culture.

Despite opportunities abroad, Fatiha found her calling in her homeland, where she continues to inspire and empower rural communities, particularly women. Her vision extends beyond borders, aiming to uplift African women through training and support initiatives.

“I joined the Global Diversity team to further my commitment to supporting and empowering women. It’s clear that women in local communities require our support and increased empowerment to thrive.”

Fatiha’s journey embodies resilience, leadership, and a profound commitment to community upliftment. With her unwavering dedication, she is carving a path toward a brighter, more empowered future for all.
