Elyse Karemera was born in Rwanda. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in animal production from the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine. Elyse has cultivated strong leadership skills throughout his academic journey. He began by leading student associations during high school and continued this trend in university. He served as the assistant head boy at GS St Aloys Rwamagana from 2016 to 2017 and was the class representative for his department at the University of Rwanda from 2018 to 2019. His commitment to leadership extended further as he became the first advisor of the arbitration committee in the student leadership committee at the campus level from 2019 to 2021. In this role, he oversaw elections, managed conflicts, and advised guild council members. Elyse’s leadership journey reached new heights when he became the Minister of Planning and Production from 2021 to 2022 at his college. In this position, he managed various production units at the campus, including restaurants, shops, halls, and agricultural activities. He also created income-generating opportunities for the student community and supervised tender activities. Elyse’s leadership experiences go beyond the academic realm. He has been actively involved in various associations, fueling his passion for volunteering. Notable roles include serving as the Vice President of the Rwanda Animal Student Association (ASSESSOR) from 2020 to 2022 and as the coordinator of the Rwanda Village Community Promoters (RVCP) from 2021 to 2023. Currently, he holds the position of East Branch Leader for the Rwanda Non-communicable Disease Alliance (RNCDA) since 2021. Elyse’s commitment to community causes extends to organizing committees. He contributed his skills and time to the TEDx Nyarugenge Event in 2021 and played a key role in the “DONATE NOW TO RESCUE A SUFFERING CHILD” worldwide charity campaign in 2022. He was also involved in the Commonwealth Debate Championship in 2022, as well as the Regional Conference organized by the Rwanda Non-Communicable Disease Alliance in December 2022. Elyse is not just a leader and volunteer but also an innovative social entrepreneur. His project, recognized during Career Innovation Week in June 2022, received a prize of 450,000 Rwandan francs. In February 2023, his team was selected as one of the top five innovative projects in the Sim-Incubator program, securing a spot in the six-month incubation program with mentorship. His project was also recognized in the “IoT and AI Applied Research Results Commercialization Through Incubation Hub” program, which provided training on AI and IoT prototyping, entrepreneurship, and commercialization. In March 2023, Elyse’s project made it to the top 20 innovative projects in the “INNOVATE FOR SMART AGRO PROCESSING” program, organized by the National Industrial Research Development Agency (NIRDA). He went through a three-month incubation and emerged as the second winner with a prize of six million Rwandan francs. More accolades followed in June 2023 when his project was selected among the final thirty innovative projects in the “IMALI AGRIBUSINESS CHALLENGE” program prepared by the Imbuto Foundation. Elyse excelled in the one-week incubation, gaining valuable skills in business integration and project pitching. He was awarded as the first winner, receiving a prize of ten million Rwandan francs. Elyse’s journey continues to flourish as his project has been selected among the top five with the potential to be applied in Germany in the “STAFRICA EXIST ACCELERATOR” program under Stafrica Rwanda. He is currently undergoing a thirteen-week incubation, further enhancing his entrepreneurial skills through mentorship and project refinement.
